Frank’s Cider
Although Naomie Clark-Port has been trudging through orchards since she could walk, the idea to make cider didn’t come to her until recently. In 2012, she realised just how much great cider fruit there was on the farm she and her husband, Tony, ran.
Naomie jumped straight into it, enlisting the help of some of Tasmania’s finest cider-makers. She named the range of ciders – which use fruit from apple and pear trees up to 80 years old – after her grandfather Frank, who used to call Franklin “the centre of the apple universe.”
But the Clarks’ story in Franklin goes back even further than that. Her family’s been in the region for six generations – in fact, her relatives were the first white people to settle in Franklin. “Woodside”, the farm where the Clark family live (and get fruit for Frank’s Cider) was founded in 1836. Frank’s Cider is already forging a legacy of its own, impressing judges in cider shows across the country.
